”The Fojo Media Institute and The Swedish Institute of International Affairs have been given a mission by the Swedish Government to assess the possibilites to set up an internatonal digital center to promote free and open media climate. The center will gather knowledge about threats and on-line hate, assisting media houses and journalists to counter harassment and find routines for analyzing and managing threats, not least by networking.”
The Verification Handbook • The Verification Handbook for Investigative Reporting, published by The European Journalism Centre, highlights search and research techniques specifically for online investigations as well as best practice for verifying open data and fact-checking.

CPJ Journalist Security Guide • This extensive guide from CPJ, The Committee to Protect Journalists, covers most of the topics on safety for journalists. In ten points, among them technology, stress reactions and freelance risks, CPJ charters out what you need to consider. Well worth your time to browse through on the net.

Internetstiftelsen, IIS • This non-profit Swedish foundation was created to help Swedish people use the Internet in a better and safer way. They produce loads of statistics and guides on net safety, for journalists, white-collar and blue-collar workers, youngsters, kids and grown-ups, mainly in swedish, but they also produce a rich bundle of reports, reviews and other downloadable materials in English. Well worth your time.

Countering information influence activities : A handbook for communicators • This handbook has been produced by government owned MSB, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, an authority for the preparedness and protection of the civil society in times of peace. According to MSB, the handbook aims primarily to assist and support communication specialists in public administration, but the contents can be of great interest also for journalists. The main purpose with the handbook is to help the reader get better at identifying, analysing and countering information influence activities in order to mitigate their impact on society, while at the same time complying with Swedish laws and principles on freedom of expression and freedom of the press.

Media Helping Media • An initiative that provides free training resources, available for anyone to download and use. There are more than 100 training modules. Many have been translated, and the materials are used in journalism training worldwide. Most of the content is released under Creative Commons BY-NC-4.0. MHM also has a mentoring service for media bosses grappling with their digital strategies and newsroom convergence.
Media Helping Media was set up in 2005 following a chat between two former BBC colleagues, David Brewer and Bob Eggington, who had worked together at the BBC’s Political Unit and were part of the launch team for BBC News Online. Both have experience as reporters and managers in print, broadcast, and online journalism. From January 2018, Media Helping Media is supported and run by the Fojo Media Institute. Fojo’s mission is to strengthen free, independent and professional journalism.
